An adult Rufous Crab Hawk (Buteogallus aequinoctialis) was observed at Los Gallos Swamp in Icacos in late March.
This species has been seen frequently at this tower since 2009 and my sightings here are as follows:
23 August 2009 – 1 bird
21 September 2009 – 1 bird
30 May 2010 – 2 birds mating on tower
26 March 2011 – 1 bird
Whether this species is now resident or is still just a visitor to mangrove swamps in Trinidad is not entirely clear.

I’m seriously slacking!!i should go down there to look for it when I’m at granville!when is the best time u think to spot it?is the tower easy to find?
Yeah it is easy to find. Take the road to Columbus Bay. Before you reach the first house, look to your left and you will see a tower. Anytime between 7:00 am and 10:00 am should be fine. If not, check back every 20 mins or so. Do not try to walk through the pasture to get closer. The field is infested with cattle ticks.
