I live part of the year on Yal Ku lagoon in Akumal, on the Yucatan. Last week there were a pair of tiger herons doing a “dance” in the grassy part of our yard bordering the lagoon. Their wings were slightly puffed out, and they circled around each other for a while. Is that mating behavior? Not too quick on my feet, I failed to film the event!
Sounds like a really interesting backyard if you have Tiger-Herons in it – they are considered rare in Trinidad. It probably was a courtship dance. You can check it against videos on youtube and the IBC.
